We have a date for El Clásico. The Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee have officially announced on Wednesday that the first game between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid this season, originally scheduled for October 26, will now be taking place on Wednesday 18 December at Camp Nou, the date that FC Barcelona originally proposed a week ago.

The game was postponed, in the words of the Spanish Federation, due to the “concurrence of exceptional causes”, which adds in its announcement that “the Competition’s Committee’s decision on a new date came about after analysing the proposals of both clubs in recent days, who agreed to reach agreement on a date and both proposed December 18 as the date to play the postpone fixture. A report by the FREF Competitions department was also analysed, as well as numerous reports by the Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional, which are not binding”.

At its Wednesday meeting, the Federation also stated that “the Committee has also analysed the latest pleas from the clubs, who stood by their initial proposal for the game to be played next December 18”.
